Plays Under Consideration for 2008 – 2009 Season

Leading Ladies by Ken Ludwig
In this hilarious comedy by the author of Lend Me a Tenor and last season’s Shakespeare in Hollywood, two English actors, Jack and Leo, are so down on their luck they decide to pass themselves off as the long lost nephews of a dying woman in order to inherit her fortune. It isn’t until they arrive that they realize they will be playing her nieces – not nephews!

On Golden Pond by Ernest Thompson
This is the love story of aging couple Ethel and Norman Thayer who spend each summer at their cottage on Golden Pond. Made into a successful movie starring Henry Fonda and Katherine Hepburn, the play explores the love shared by a couple in the twilight years of their long marriage.

The Lady from Maxim’s by Georges Feydeau
A normally sober doctor awakens to find that he brought two things home from Maxim’s last night: a hangover and a lady of the evening. The master of bedroom farce wittily unravels the raucous confusion that ensues.

Tartuffe by Moliere
Considered by many to be Moliere’s best comedy, Tartuffe is the story of a stranger who, by pretending to be a religious man, maneuvers his way into the good graces of Orgon, a wealthy man who decides to make Tartuffe his heir. Will Orgon catch on before Tartuffe seduces his wife and claims his fortune?

Period of Adjustment by Tennessee Williams
Williams’ only comedy is an affectionate look at one young couple’s disastrous honeymoon.

Round and Round the Garden by Alan Ayckbourn
Norman and his sister-in-law are all set to go off on a secret weekend tryst when her brother Reg and wife Sarah show up. His plans dashed, Norman moves on to Plan B – seducing Sarah. If all else fails, there’s still his wife Ruth!

The Subject Was Roses by Frank Gilroy
This Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play is the subtle portrait of a family in the wake of World War II.

Breakfast with Les and Bess by Lee Kalcheim
In this romantic comedy, Les and Bess are a married couple who co-host a 1950’s morning radio program from their living room in New York City. They manage to maintain sophisticated chit chat while surprise announcements from their offspring continue to throw them for a loop. With their show on the verge of cancellation, will their marriage be next?...Stay tuned!
